Recurring Notifications (RCN)

Recurring Notifications (RCN)

The Recurring Notifications feature allows you to send messages outside the 24-hour window. You can send either daily, weekly, or monthly messages for use cases (e.g., webinar reminders, subscription reminders, horoscope, etc.) where someone has explicitly agreed to receive these messages.

Beginning January 31, 2023, the weekly and monthly notifications are deprecated and message frequency will no longer be required when sending opt-in requests for recurring notifications. Notification tokens that were created before January 31, 2023, for weekly and monthly frequencies are still supported. The message frequency for these tokens will not change and the notification_messages_frequency will be returned in the Messaging Opt-In Webhook Notification.

Here's a short video on how Recurring Notification works:

We hope the video sheds some light on the Recurring Notification feature. If that went a bit too fast for your taste, please see the rest of the article about this feature.

Recurring Notification Features

With the Recurring Notification feature, you can send messages every day, every week, or every month to the users who opted in for a certain topic. You can even send promotional content and campaigns. Once the user asks to be notified, you will be granted permission to send these messages to the user. The user can also opt-out anytime in Messenger.

Recurring Notification Overview

All your recurring notification records are stored in the table at Automation>Recurring Notifications.

1. Name

  • This is the name you give to your Recurring Notification record. It’s recommended to use a Name that helps you to find your Recurring Notification entry back easily.

2. Frequency

  • This shows the frequency type for your Recurring Notification setup.

3. Flow

  • This shows the specific flow used for your RN topic.

4. Creation Date

  • This shows the date the RN entry was created.

5. Actions

  • These are the actions you can perform on an individual Recurring Notification, currently: Edit, Rename and Delete.

6. Drop-Down menu

  • You can change the number of records you want to appear per page by clicking the drop-down in the right-upper corner. You can choose to show either 10, 25, 50, or 100 records per page.

7. Search

  • In the right-upper corner, you can also use the search field. Search terms are applied to all data in the table.

8. Next/Previous Page

  • In the bottom right corner, you can view the next page or previous page by clicking “next” or “previous”. This allows you to navigate through all your records.

How to perform Bulk Actions?

You can perform Bulk Actions by clicking the checkboxes – of the records you want to perform Bulk Actions on – in the first column. From there you perform Bulk Actions like “Delete”, by clicking the Bulk Actions button in the right-upper corner.

Create a Recurring Notification Request

Creating a recurring notification request is easy. Note that a person must opt-in to receive recurring notifications from your FB page. To send a RCN request to your subscribers, we pushed the RCN Request Card to the Flow Composer.

  • Simply click on “Create New.”

  • You’ll be asked to fill out some required fields namely; name, platform type (prefilled), frequency, and flow.

    • Name: Enter a name for your RN topic.

    • Frequency: Select your desired frequency type for this topic.

    • Flow: Select the flow for this specific RN topic then click on “Confirm.”

Note: You also have to select the day of the week for weekly notifications and the day of the month for the monthly notifications.

Create a Recurring Notification Flow

  • Next is creating the flow for your recurring notification setup. Navigate to Automation > Flows then click on “Create New.”

    • Fill in the name of the flow and set the type as either promotional or non-promotional.

    • Create your flow according to your liking and remember to include the RCN Request card.

  • Click on the gear icon or double-click on the RCN Request card. Set the title that you want to appear and choose the topic you created earlier. You may also add an image.

  • Once done, click on Save and save the flow as well.

Set Up Recurring Notification

  • Go to Automation > Flows, then click on “Create New.”

    • Fill in the name of the flow and set the type as Recurring Notification and hit “Confirm”.

  • Create your desired flow and “Save.”

Note: There are limitations as to the number of cards that can be used per type. (e.g. Only one of the message-type cards can be used, but you can use as many integration cards as you need).

Select a Flow

  • Navigate to the Automation > Recurring Notifications Topics and edit the RN topic.

    • Select the flow that you created for the actual recurring notifications, then click on “Confirm.”

  • You’re all set. All users who opted in for certain topics will start receiving your recurring notifications.

Checking RCN Subscribers

  • Go to Automation > Recurring Notifications Topics.

    • Click on Actions > Select Subscribers.

Note: While your subscribers opted in to receive recurring notifications, they also have the option to opt-out at their discretion. This can be done within Messenger by clicking on Manage > Stop these messages. As soon as they opt out, their profile will also be removed from the list of subscribers for the particular topic.

Recurring Notification Limitation

  • DAILY – Those who opt-in will receive one notification per 24-hour period for 6 months at 3:00 AM UTC.
